
Dr. Max Margulies

About this speaker
Dr. Max Margulies is an Assistant Professor of International Affairs and the Director of the Rupert H. Johnson Grand Strategy Program at West Point. His research interests span both international relations and comparative politics, and include civil-military relations, conflict and strategy, civil war, and state formation. His current projects aim to understand the relationship between military organization policies—especially conscription—and politics beyond the battlefield. At West Point, Dr. Margulies teaches the core International Relations course (SS307), two courses on grand strategy (SS457 and SS458), and the summer field study in grand strategy (XH397). He also manages the grand strategy minor, including the advising of cadets minoring in grand strategy and the development of grand strategy programming. He is originally from Newtown, CT, and holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in political science from Columbia University, and a B.A. in political science from McGill University.
