About this Session
Welcome address by Colonel Mark Read, Head of Dept of Geography and Environmental Engineering, US Military Academy West Point is proposed to include the following:
a) Welcomes everyone to our conference
b) Indicates that climate change is amplifying security related problems in several areas of the world and can be considered a threat multiplier.
c) Then indicates that the conference today will focus on these four main areas: o Scope of current and expected security threats around the world o Introduce some strategies to mitigate security threats o Highlight solutions that can mitigate climate change and be implemented on a global scale o Introduce some initiatives for financing Climate Action on a global scale: d) Then indicates that the conference tomorrow will focus on regional areas including Canada.
e) Then he introduces the Conference Moderator: Dr. Sweta Chakraborty, US Representative, We Don't Have Time.
f) Conference Moderator explains some housekeeping details of the conference and then highlights the co-sponsors of this conference: ◦ Climate Solutions Advancement Network (ClimateSAN) ◦ Modern War Institute at West Point ◦ NATO Association of Canada As well as the financial sponsors of this conference: ◦ Think Renewables Group ◦ Next Hydrogen
g) The Conference Moderator introduces the Chairperson of the Conference: Paul Stevers, President and CEO, Think Renewables Group & Co-Founder of Climate Solutions Advancement Network (ClimateSAN).
h) Chairperson of Conference outlines the why we brought together experts on climate change, human security, climate solutions and global finance to help build broad-based support for action on a global scale. He will then illustrate the current warming trend and some reasons why we are on this trend. To do so, he will show a 2 min video about "Current Climate Warming Trend and Expected Impacts”.
i) Chairperson of Conference then introduces the first keynote speaker
